Two Landscapes, One Journey: Fitzroy Resorts in Bali

From Uluwatu’s ocean cliffs to the valleys and rainforest of Ubud, discover two Fitzroy resorts and how to experience them in one Bali journey.

Bali is not one landscape.

Along the southern coast, limestone cliffs rise above the Indian Ocean. Further inland, the hills become greener and more expansive, with valleys stretching towards distant mountains. Deeper into the island, the landscape becomes denser, quieter and more immersed in rainforest.

Fitzroy follows this journey across two very different expressions of Bali: Fitzroy Uluwatu and Fitzroy Ubud.

Two landscapes, each with its own character. One journey through Bali.

Above the Ocean

The journey begins in Uluwatu, where Bali opens towards the sea.

Set high above the Indian Ocean, Fitzroy Uluwatu is shaped by limestone, open sky and the constant movement of the water below. The landscape feels expansive here. Days begin with the horizon and end with changing light across the cliffs, while the ocean remains present throughout.

The ten private pool villas are designed around this sense of space and privacy, each with its own pool and tropical garden setting. Beyond the villas, an infinity pool sits above the ocean, creating another place to pause and take in the landscape.

But Uluwatu is not simply a place to look at the sea. It is a peninsula made for exploring. Beaches sit below the cliffs, surf breaks stretch along the coastline, and temples overlook the ocean from dramatic positions above the water. A morning might begin at Nyang Nyang or Padang-Padang, continue with lunch somewhere along the peninsula and end watching the sun disappear beyond the Indian Ocean.

There is an openness to this part of Bali that is difficult to find elsewhere.

Here, the island feels dramatic, elemental and entirely connected to the sea.

Within the Rainforest

Deeper into Ubud, the landscape becomes increasingly immersive.

At Fitzroy Ubud, the forest is no longer something viewed from a distance. It surrounds the experience. Dense tropical vegetation, filtered light and the sounds of the natural world create a setting that feels secluded and intimate.

The villas are nestled among the trees, with private pools and gardens keeping the rainforest remarkably close. Morning light moves through the canopy. Leaves shift overhead. The air cools as the afternoon settles in, and after rain the forest becomes darker, greener and more vivid.

There is a different sense of privacy here.

The jungle does not ask to be explored every moment. Sometimes the experience is simply staying close to it — swimming, reading, having a long lunch, listening to the rain or watching the light move through the trees. The sounds of birds and insects continue around you, reminding you that the landscape is alive beyond the boundaries of the villa.

If Uluwatu is about the openness of the ocean and Ubud Valley is about the breadth of the landscape, Ubud Jungle is about being surrounded by it.

The view is no longer something in the distance.

It is all around you.

Two Ways of Experiencing Bali

What connects the three Fitzroy destinations is not a single design language or a repeated resort experience. It is the idea that the landscape should shape the stay.

At Fitzroy Uluwatu, the ocean determines the rhythm. The horizon is wide, the cliffs are dramatic and the sea remains a constant presence.

At Fitzroy Ubud, the relationship changes again. The forest closes around you. The canopy becomes the view, the sounds of nature become part of the atmosphere, and the distinction between the villa and its surroundings begins to soften.

Three destinations. Three different relationships with Bali.

And perhaps that is what makes the journey interesting. The island does not reveal itself in quite the same way from every place. Its character shifts with the landscape, and so does the way you experience it.

One Journey Through Bali

It is possible to experience Bali without ever seeing how dramatically its landscapes change. Stay by the coast and the island can feel defined by the ocean. Stay in Ubud and it becomes a world of valleys, rainforest, temples and mountains.

Move between them, however, and a different Bali begins to emerge.

Start above the Indian Ocean in Uluwatu. Then continue deeper into the rainforest, where the pace becomes quieter and the landscape more immersive.

The distance between these places is not simply geographical. Each reveals another side of the island — from open ocean to the jungle.

That is the idea behind Fitzroy.

Two landscapes, each with its own character. One journey through Bali.
